This is the debut for a separate page for this line of our family on our website.  Previous to this they were included in with the Campbell information, as I had very little concrete information about the family.  Compton was my maternal great-grandmother's maiden name.  In other words, Mamoo's (my grandmother Lola Campbell McClure) mother's family's name.  This line includes surnames of :

Campbell, Compton, Heuer, Pierce, Stalker, Todd and others

Mamoo often talked about her "Todd" cousins, and I now have a photo that was hers, of her four Todd cousins, of an age with herself, they were all beautiful girls.  It was descendants of these Todds, Don & Carol Heuer,  who furnished me with much of the original Compton information, and I owe them many thanks, because I was really stuck for some time.  A sister of great-grandmother Dora Annas [Mary Ellen] married Henry Calvin Todd, and that is who they are descended from.  Very nice people.

We are also indebted to cousin Diana Hudspeth, for providing some invaluable further information, and for others I recently connected with on the internet, due to Diana's new information for me.

Thanks to Jim Lawler for allowing us to use his ancestral data for the Compton family.  I don't have this online yet, but will be working on it very soon.  This research takes the family back to England and is quite impressive.

Notes for James Franklin Compton:

James Franklin Compton family information was obtained from census records, family members, and other researchers.  Some birth dates are approximate.  He served in the war with Mexico in 1848,  and was living in Crawford County, Missouri, when the 1850 census was taken, with his young wife and his first son, Silas.  For the 1860 census he was still in the same county, but his family had grown to include another son and a daughter. By the time the 1870 census was taken his first wife had died, he had remarried, moved to Washington County, Missouri, had volunteered and fought for the Union in the Civil War (1861-1865).  He fought in battles at Wilson Creek, Missouri, and Pea Ridge, Arkansas.  His family had grown to include a total of three sons and four daughters, and one daughter, born in 1852, was no longer mentioned, so she either married, or died prior to this census.  By the 1880 census, his two oldest sons had married and had set up their own households, but he still had eight children at home, for a total of ten children.

The 1890 census records were lost in a fire in Washington, D.C., so we lose track of the Compton family until the 1900 census.  In that census, the only record we have at present is of his son, William B. Compton and his family, who have moved from Crawford County (where they were in 1880), to Washington County where James Franklin Compton lived.  Could it be that William moved his family to his father's home to work the family farm?  It is likely, as James Franklin Compton was 72 years old in 1900, and his wife was 68.  Farming at that age would have been difficult alone, and their children were all grown.  Their youngest son (James Emory) had died at thirteen, and the next youngest (Henry F.), whom records are very scarce of, would have been 26 years old.  William Compton, himself, was now 45 years old with two children, a son, Manvil C.D., who was 24, and a daughter, Iola, who was 20.  No records are found yet for Silas' family for that census, but we think he lived in Missouri at about that time, as Olan Campbell, living in Birch Tree remembers seeing them at that time.
